Caught Up Loving A Savage By: Sevyn Scott

The elements in this Urban Fiction read are both traditional and non traditional. It surrounds it self with drugs and violence but it is not the only element. No you step into the life of a stone cold hit man who does what he can to secure the bag. What makes it even more complete is the fact that in a world where he can’t afford feelings love finds its way to creeping in. Makes for a very action packed  and fast paced read that leaves your mind gone.

Character Breakdown

Shine- His demeanor is direct and unforgiving. This man has not had it easy but in the face of adversity he found a way to pull himself up by his bootstraps. It was not the path he choose but the path chose him. Like any great opportunist he grabbed at the chance of not having to live in poverty again. He been with his ride or die from the beginning and all he wanted to do was give her a life that was outside of the struggle. That is until he makes a decision that leaves him with an enemy under his roof and no way out.

Lyrika- This woman is born from heartbreak. Living a life with the rose colored glassed, all Lyrika wants to do is see her name in lights and live happily ever after with her soulmate. That is until that dream is shattered and she is left traversing the world without a purpose and trying to discover who she is outside of the love of someone else's life. One night out with her girls leads her to a chance meeting that showed her she had been living life with her eyes wide shut.


Story from my perspective

The book starts of almost like a recap. It takes you through many stages quickly. This Author offers a unique approach to giving you a backstory before you get to the nitty gritty. One point I absolutely valued because it is extremely uncommon for first books. With the excitement of this new way to write I fell deep into this story and could not put it down.

My first look at Shine and off the back all I could think was that he is woke, conscious and aware. I loved his philosophy on life and living it. The thing that made me absolutely fall in love is his assertiveness and unwavering principles. He is loyal to those who holds dear but does not use that as a crutch if it is not repaid in kind. Shine makes no excuses for his choices and that can be off-putting for some but for me it was everything. Mystery and Secrecy are all tools he needs to be effective in his trade. It is also the thing that almost cost him everything. In his line of duty he cant afford distractions but when your soul moves you are inclined to follow.

Lyrika is on her way to an opportunity of a lifetime. The same opportunity that cost her the love of her life. With no compromise nor comfort-ability Lyrika must find a way to drag herself out of the funk called heartbreak. That's what good girlfriends are for. After  a stern pep-talk her girls convince her to go out into the world and give life a try. Still apprehensive, she follows their advice and what she comes to learn leaves her speechless. She has two choices waste away in loneliness or blindly follow a stranger into an unknown adventure.

What this couple represents is a modern day Bonnie and Clyde story. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the misadventure composed in this story.
