Devlin In The Pulpit By: Yatta Rose

This book is categorized as Urban Fiction but in reality it exceeds those limits. This book is healing and a conversation starter wrapped in chapters meant to entertain and provoke thought. Its name is an appropriate play on words that speaks to the severity of the social issues that comes from the corrupt leadership in the black church. Devlin In The Pulpit does not disappoint and it is a story that requires objective thought.

Character Breakdown

Devlin Latimore- The most objective and multi-faceted antagonist to ever have been written. He is a Bishop of a mega church that is at one time thriving. But a congregation is only as great as their leadership. Unfortunately before anything he is human well, sub-human if his dangerous proclivities are anything to judge him by. Before the churches eyes his sins are laid bare and just like men of arrogance tend to do he stands unashamed on his sin. But pride surely comes before a fall. He loses members and the respect of those closest to him. Is that enough to cause him to correct his actions or is he to far gone on this path he set upon himself.

Ms. Sonja Latimore- Wife, Mother and First Lady are just a few of the hats she wears. She is dedicated to the Lord and keeping up the appearances in front of the congregation. Blind, she pretends to be to the many issues that effect her home and marriage. How can she see when she is neglected, misused and abused by the very man that stood before God and promised to love, protect and honor her. Trying to live by the word she ignores the signs of a deeper issue effecting her home. Trying to please God, Her Husband and a people born of judgement may cause her to lose everything that matters most.

Ms. Donetta Williams- She is a widow and newly single mother. If it wasn't for her good friends Devlin and Sonja she wouldn't know how she would make it through. By prayer and her faith in God she only hopes to see brighter days. Its a good thing she has such an intricate support system to help raise her daughter British whom happens to be the god daughter of the Bishop and First Lady. She pours all her free time into the church as well as working extra shifts. Entrusting her daughter in the hands of the Latimore's so she can work to provide a comfortable life made harder by this new station. Her absence and trust in anything but God may just cause more harm than good.

British Williams- Young girl absent a fathers guidance. Losing her father has been an absolute defining moment in the moulding of a young woman. Her once happy life is now upset but her parents instilled a love of God in her at an early age. Although young she knows that she can only depend on Him to help her through. She takes solace in the love she shares with her god sister Simone whom is like a mentor and guide in a world turned lonely by death. But they are bonded by more than a sisterly love. Their secrets and demons makes them guardians of one another. Her innocence becomes tainted by the very things meant to protect it.

Simone- She is the daughter of a bishop and raised with a love and respect of the church that only Preachers Kids can attest too. She loves God and her parents and her little god sister British. She takes British under her wings and tries to shield her from life especially the things that happen when there are no witnesses or anything to protect them from being prey. Her heart and spirit are heavy and she holds it all inside until her biggest secret seeks to destroy not only her life but those around her. Overcoming and wishing for brighter days were once hope, until she feels like there is only one way to be free of the pain that binds her soul.

Tory Brooks- Suffering with his identity and what the chuchs deems appropriate for a man. Tory finds himself hiding in a shell. He has a mother that is dying and a family who ostracized him. The only happy place he has is singing. Living on the outskirts of prejudice especially from the leader of the church whom does not hide his disdain for him or his lifestyle. He feels like giving up until his mother lets him know its okay to live in his truth. With his back straight and chin up he walks in his destiny. But opening up to others just may have invited the devil to his front door.

Deacon Kenneth- All he wants to do is his part and ensuring that the church prospers. Bound by loyalty and duty he finds himself in precarious positions. He is helping the Bishop keep secrets so that he doesn't hurt the ones he loves. In doing so he is reminded of the young man he was, without the wisdom that comes with time to guide his actions. He tries to save his leader from the sins of his personal experience. He begins to question why God allows a man with no moral boundaries to lead a flock. He pulls himself away until this leaders sins starts creeping round his doorstep and sends him down a path that was long ago forgotten.

Story From My Perspective

In the lines of this book are many great lessons. Some of the hard truths I learned. Were more personal than this author could know. My emotions were captivated by this story of tragedy with triumph upon the horizons. I felt my heart strings being tugged and cried many tears for these characters that not only touched me but healed me as well.

You look at the roles of the leaders in the black church. How when things happen they are swept under the rug. You are expected to follow the leadership blindly. Just because they were called. Sometimes we find ourselves putting our faith in Man who is fallible instead of God who is infallible.

When you  delve into the issues wrapped in secrecy. You find yourself outraged, nonplussed and thoroughly offended. It was like you saw that in peoples blackened hearts, you found an evil that would make hell shiver. To see how so many lives could be effected by black thoughts, fraudulence and misguidance.

You will find your heart moved and your soul shaken. Just remember at your lowest and darkest moments you can breakthrough. Every victim in this story is a victor in my eyes and you can find the strength to overcome by reading these powerful words that can only fortify your understanding in how you are not your tragedy by clicking the link below and purchasing this 5-star read:

Black Love Matters By: QuardeayJulien

Jump into a world of Urban Romance full of what is the essence of who we are as Kings and Queens. A reminder of a thing that has almost become myth. In these pages a something long forgotten has been reborn. Welcome once again to the world of Black Love.

Character Breakdown

Philly: Some would call her a hoe while some will call her misguided. Honestly she is neither. She is an awesome mind wrapped in self assurance. Her crown graces the head of a true powerhouse who rules in life as well as the bedroom. Philly is a women who is in tune with her sexuality while having a system that is in place to protect her heart. Her behavior is not raunchy but more so full of sensuality and the power it wields her in intimacy. She is complex as all women are and ever evolving in her thoughts, wants and needs. She also has secrets hidden behind a fortress that appears to be promiscuity. What she needs is a proverbial light to lead her to what she really desires.

Avant: Black man on a rise to excellence. He finally finds the opportunity to show the world just what his creative mind can do. Landing his dream job has him relocating to a new city and closer to his best friend. New area, new playground and this leopard can't change his spots or can he? He is a connoisseur of women and he is not ashamed to admit it. His move to a new city brings him face to face with one of the biggest challenges he has ever met. This journey just may be what he needs to find his sense of self.

Parker: In a world where black women are objectified and defiled. This Queen has found a way to still remain virtuous. She has a proven methodoloy.  that helps her weed out those unworthy. Her ideals may seem archaic but she only intends to give her all to a King who is deserving. She uses her trust in fate to guide her steps through life. As we all know fate has a funny way of bringing people together. The question to be asked is will she use more than her physical eyes when trying to decipher fates plan.

Khali: Verily chilvary is not dead and morals do exist. In a time where all men want is to catch a nut and play house. You meet a unique Man who would rather know you mind and soul. Than to enjoy the sacredness of your body. He has taken a vow to save himself for the one he will build a life with. His decision has caused many of women to question not just his sanity but his manhood as well. No matter what he remains solid and does not waiver in his quest to find his better half.

Story From my Perspective

Best friends is the dynamic and the vehicle in which this story thrives. Each group of friends are as different as night and day. Philly a vivacious, outspoken, self-assured and sensual writer who is best friends with Parker who is an artist, innocent, morally sound and naive to life. Then you have Avant who is a bold, risk taking, playful editor while Khali is a poetic, woke, romantic and uplifting artist. But in the opposing friendships they each find their perfection in the one designed for them.

Inside of this story you will find reminders for the soul. You will see how each person has a foundation that will only be built upon once they meet their match. In these pages love is not just one dimensional it is fluent.

Philly and Avant are used to a certain type of liaison. Arrangements that are both carnal and pleasurable. Thinking with their bodies. Forgetting that intimacy opens pathways to the heart. What was once casual makes an unexpected metamorphosis into a situation that exceeds comfortability. Will they follow the new path placed before them or allow fear of the unknown to rob them of greatness.

Khali and Parker have met and missed each other so much. You have no choice but to believe that destiny is calling. Have you ever met someone on a pure vibe? Its like the moment your minds connect, your heart gets a new rhythm, your soul feels replenished and your whole being is content. In a world where we do everything expeditiously with singular focus and pressure to compete. Two separate souls who are trying to find completion. For some reason they just can't seem to fit in place. Whether due to time or circumstance. Will they be able to trust the process or will they keep tempting fate until it changes course.

The title in itself is unique. As I stated amongst our people Black Love is almost obsolete. Reading these characters and what they experienced on their quest to love. Reminded me why our men are top of the food chain. Take for example Khali whose mother is a recent widower and how as the oldest. He took it upon himself to feel the gap in with his younger siblings who need him now more than ever. You see the love that he has for her shows the love he will have for his future Queen.

Inside this book you find yourself able to identify with people who are on our everyday struggle. Sometimes you feel uncertainty, the struggle to survive in a one minded world, the ability to have your soul moved and mind opened with art. You are given lessons in our true history which the author makes relevant to our present story.

You really don't know what to expect upon first glance. Then you are introduced to your first character and become hooked page after page. I love the fact that there was poetry interspersed into the story.  Also how the women and men in this book were supportive and not being called out their name especially in a time where people wear any derogatory name as a badge of honor while balking at being called Kings and Queens"

This story was fun, entertaining as well as soothing for our souls and you can check it out by clicking the link below:

Book review for Solomon By: Mopain Taylor

This title is categorized as Christian fiction but I catergorize it as Urban Fiction with christian undertones. At first glance you expect it to be full of religion. I mean the title implies it. But I promise you where this author takes you will be unexpected but have you totally transfixed and hanging on to your seat. It is action packed and drama filled. You can guess all you want but the Author will throw curveball after curveball and that kept me reading

Character Breakdown

Solomon- He is a preacher of a mega church, that is also just a man that struggles with human things. He has problems in his home, wayward children and his flesh calls. The war he faces is relatable but when his past comes to confront him. You will find that the war has come to reconcile itself. To know that your journey to self and all that you strive to become. Takes no precedence over the man you need to become once again. Especially for the sake of family.

Naomi- She is his first lady but she is not perfect. Her demons have taken hold of her soul. As much as she tries to drown them out with drugs. These things consume her life, mind and heart. If only she could lay her burdens down. She may be able to overcome her demons.

Joseph- Life as a PK(preacher's kid) is definitely filled with it's own obstacles. The streets know him as cutthroat. This 19 year-old menace is a king in these streets. His father doesn't understand how he came out this way after being raised in a god-fearing home. You see while the ministry was calling his father, the streets had already started raising him. He can't see himself slowimg down and that may just be his downfall

Imani- She is 21 and living what she feels is her best life. She has no time to concern herself with her Mega Church father or her troubled mother. She makes her own rules and that is just how it goes. Especially when she knows she doesn't belong. She is the best kept secret with secrets of her own.

Story From My Perspective

Initially when I began reading I felt as thought it would be you modern day church tell. You know one rife with scandal, affairs, stealing and etc. Well chile, let me tell you firsthand, that ain't how none of this goes.

You meet Solomon and you relate to the heaviness on his mind and heart. He has a drug addicted wife, a daughter who exposes her flesh to strangers and a son who sells more drugs than Mc Donald's sells burgers. How can he lead his flock when his sheep seem to all have gone astray?

Until one day he is confronted with his past. A past that he left to find his better self. One that he chose to leave but, has now come calling him to return. But how will he explain these secrets or the façade he portrays to a family that only knows him in this light? How does he tell them its about to get dark? Or that he is the storm that will blot out the sun.

Naomi a beautiful woman not only in body but in spirit. You judge her initially because she is a first lady and she is doing drugs. Until you see that the pressure finally burst her pipes. See she has been keeping a secret from her whole family. One that could possibly upset her families whole foundation. That is why she chooses to take the pain away, the only way she knows how.

Joseph makes his own rules and although he is the youngest. His street credibility makes him super grown. He has been putting in work and no one can tell him nothing. His father being a preacher makes him soft in his eyes. While he was out there spreading the gospel the streets was raising him into an unstoppable savage. The only thing is he may not know everything there is to this life. Because his enemies are closer than he thinks.

Imani is a young beauty who knows she is the shit. She is a headline stripper and model. Everyone treats her like a baby but on that stage she is all grown. Not even having a nationally known preacher for a father stops the rush that she gets from being the center of attention. Her family thinks her naive but she knows what they think she is ignorant to. That is why she keeps secrets of her own. Her secrets will ensure that she gets the last laugh and puts herself on top.

This family I tell you is full of more than dysfunction. It's as if everyone lives their separate truths and creates this unreal reality that doesn't help the family as a whole. What they fail to realize is that honesty is the best policy. It's the one thing that could actually save them from the twisted web of deceit that will come to wrap this family in mayhem, mistrust and disloyalty. You can check out this amazing author on this journey that is sure not to disappoint. Be sure to #Download #Review and then come back to discuss this story with me

Review for Blasphemy: No Religion by: Brookelynn Crenshaw

This uban novella packed a mean punch in very few words. The scenes take you on a whirlwind of emotions and it will have you like damn "She cold as ice".

Character Breakdown

Blasphemy- He is a hustler with a well put together team. He is making it shake in Baltimore. His team sees no weakness in him. But his weakness is not known until it is to late.

Kamali- She is seductive, exotic and erotic. She knows exactly who she is but prides herself on being a chameleon. Everyone underestimates her. That is until she shows them that she is a boss.

Story From My Perspective

This story starts off reading like your typical boy meets girl, falls in love and the end. That is what you think until the sinister and devious plans begin to take form. You start out sympathizing with Kamali thinking she is a damsel in distress. Then when Blasphemy comes in to rescue her you see how she is a wolfs in sheeps clothing.

Blasphemy falls in love and feels like she is the greatest thing to ever happen to him. She seems to be upgrading his life and he is enamored. He would never think that the very thing he holds dear to him would be the one thing that costs him everything.

I was so shocked by how this story took all these twists and turns. For me it was unfolding so fast. When the plot was revealed it was like damn that was crazy. How did nobody see that coming? I wanted this to be a full novel and hopes she considers it *hint, hint*. Take this ride by downloading this action packed novella below. And be sure to come back here so we can discuss your thoughts

Review for Married To The Community D by: Mz. Biggs

The title of this urban fiction definitely implies that somebody ain't right. What you would assume would be a simple story of a man just spreading it thin is far from what this joy ride actually becomes. You jump head first into a drama that will have your jaw on the floor and you clutching your pearls.

Character Breakdown

Nova- He fine and he knows it, with the swag to match. He has all the ladies thinking he is God's gift to women when he is just a f*ck boi with good D. He thinks himself important but his secrets are going to be what knocks him down a few notches

Patience- Self-Aware, successful, no non-sense and beautiful. Her only flaw is realizing she married a f*ck boi to late. She tried to be patient with her husband but when she sees he is for everybody she just finally breaks.

Story From My Perspective

Nova is a modern day Cassanova. His days are full of busting down weak women and forgetting that he actually took vows with someone. You can tell that he has control issues. Typically control is used for a purpose but he is just someone who loves the power trip. From his interactions with his slides you will see, that he has no respect, fears no backlash and is comfortable taking his pleasure even it it causes them displeasure. Its sick to see, how he breaks them down mentally to keep them in-line. The only thing is his wife ain't with the shits. He knows what goes on for the women on the side don't fly with his wife and that leaves him not knowing how to get her in line.

Patience gave her husband the benefit of the doubt. She knows by his actions that he has to be into somethings she won't like. She never went looking for his indescretions but when they walk up on her in the grocery store. She can no longer ignore that her husband is really "The Community D". This sets her on a path to show him better than she can tell him. When a woman's fed up nothing you do or say will move her heart

When shit hits the fan and Parience decides Nova is no longer welcome in her world. Nova can't accept that she would just walk away. When he tries to strong arm his wife into staying with him he finds out that she is six types of crazy and he got her twelve ways to fucked up.

My reaction to this awesome read was "Lawd Today". I mean from the beginning I was shocked at how disgusting Nova was as a husband and all I could think was throw the whole dude away. He earned my instant hate and that has only ever happened a few times before in my life as a reader. The thing that struck me was the deeper issue of how some men just can't help themselves because sex is over sensationalized it has really become an addiction. Patience for me gets my highest honor because she just was not here for it. She didn't allow her face to be played in and there was no extreme she didn't go through to make sure He understood she would not take or accept anything he was giving her laying down. Watching their drama left me with the questions Will he break her down? Will she continue to stand her ground? What secrets will come out next? You can find out by downloading this 5 star read to your kindle and be sure to come back and leave your comments so that we can discuss

Review of Married To the Streets And You by: KB Cole

You walk into a world where nothing is as it seems. Its funny how life intersects and you have no idea what will come once all paths cross. What you think you knew, has no place when these truths start getting revealed.

Character Breakdown

Terray- He has always been known as the dedicated church boy. He is a husband "Allegedly" to Anais and he was always known for routine. His life was bland until he was introduced to a life of crime during his tenure as prison warden. To go from in the shadows to now being the man on top. Has caused a power trip that makes him feel invincible. When he starts trying to step on toes of men who really do this. The question remains will he be able to stand once that pressure hits his chest.

Anais- She is a wife, Loving Daughter, Doctor and dedicated to the life placed before her. Afraid to face that her marriage is in trouble because she was raised to believe that marriage was forever. She is docile with a immer strength she didn't know was in her until she has to face some hard truths about the reality she calls life.

Cyren- You can just call him "Daddy". His swag is befittitting a young, self-made rich savage. He is Loyal to those closest to his heart. He is a husband who doesn't allow himself to get caught up in the hoes who fall in love with the fame. He has a high set of principals that he adheres to. But with his life, comes many problems. After almost losing his life he will come to know just who is rocking and who is against him.

Laniece- She is the wife to Cyren a man who owns these streets. Loving him should be easy but the saying "if you want a man to provide for you, expect to have a busy man" is a reality that has become hard to accept. It is in that point she finds herself unfulfilled in a life that is glamorous on the outside but leaves her empty and looking for whats missing.

Story from my perspective

Terray no matter how you slice him is a bastard seed devil spawn. He is a selfish man who is good at hiding his evil. You feel for a beautiful flower like Anais because you know that such poison can only wilt her petals. You can see how he manipulates those around him. He has everyone believing he is the big man on campus. One thing about a fraud, their hands will eventually be shown.

Anais can feel the change in her husband but she does not see what he is, until it literally slaps her in the face. Once she knows she can't unknow. When she takes a stand for her rights she actually ends up losing more than she bargained for. She is then left to ask was it all really worth it in the end.

Cyren is good at eliminating threats. When he has a chance meeting with the beautiful Anais that results in his life being saved. He is grateful for the angelic stranger. That is until he realizes that she is the wife of his newest threat(one he doesn't take seriously nut a threat is a threat none the less) and he has to figure out if this is coincidence or just an unfortunate play by fate.

Laniece has more than any girl could ask for and it is still not enough. She doesn't know how to make her husband see that this life is nothing without a man to truly share it with. It is that thinking that takes her from standing ten toes down to becoming the type of problem she never thought she would be.

The emotions in this book were raw and uncut. The same breath I laughed with, in the next moment had me boohooing like a baby. This author wrote a story that really hit home on a lot of issues like sleeping with the enemy or being ungrateful for the small blessings until it is to late. I related with these characters and actually took a moment after the book ended to contemplate my life and my journey to myself and that to me is what a good book does. It makes you look deeper at the message and relate it to yourself. If you are interested in how these folks and their lives cross paths on an adventure to truth like none other before click the link below and rememver to comeback so that we can discuss:

Review of The Real Mistress of Atlanta By Yatta Rose

This Urban Fiction is right out the gate shenanigans. The name implies messiness and chile it gets filthy. All in a days work of Lyric Township as she causes heads to roll and wives to gag.

Character Breakdown

Lyric- She is more than your husbands best kept secret. She is a complex woman whose love is fluent. She is a hustler and her assets are her best selling point. She is daring and unashamed and does not cower when folks are whispering behind her back. Holding her head high she owns who she is and offers no apologies.

Story from my perspective

You enter the world of Lyric Township and on the surface you see a whore who has made a comfortable living by becoming the willing side chick to married men. It was so easy intially to be judgemental because no one can ever sympathize with a homewrecker. I won't lie I was judging the main character before I even delved deeper between the lines. When I read along a little more I was shocked by the emotions I truly felt.

What I saw was a young girl lost. A women who had been objectified for her beauty but judged for capitalizing off of it. I saw someone just wanting to be loved and not trusting that someone will look over her past.

She had a lot of deep seated issues. Issues that caused her to be estranged from her family, befriend a secret hater but even more than that when she finally gives love a try it causes her more pain than anything she ever experienced before. The way she used her body as a means to feel close to that elusive thing called love. Was indicative of a cry out for help, that will have you trying to just hug her through the pages.

This author gave a perfect story centered around this one character. It was the first time I read a book where only one person was involved in every aspect of the book. It made me relate to Lyric on an intimate level. Made me feel like every high and low was personal. You can find out what happens to a woman who sought love in all the wrong places, until it finds her and turns her world upside down when you click the link below:

Review of Key To The Streets: Kallie & Kahli Hustle Affair By: Alicia Howard

Meet a young man thrown into a life that he only glimpsed growing up. But, When his uncle is murdered it left him with giant shoes to fill and streets to supply.

Charcter Breakdown

Kahli (Pronounced Kah-lil it's a St.Louis thing)- Young and intelligent and is the new "Key to the streets". He was prepped for this life but never thought the day would come so soon he would have to step into the role. He is business minded with a lotta bit of savage. He has a legacy to continue and with a team like his he can't fail because the streets are depending on him.

Kallie- She is fiesty and unapologetic blame it on her Afro-Boriqua roots. Born to parents who rode hard in the streets but also lost their lives to them. She was sheltered because he Mema didn't want the streets to take her too. She is all grown up now and trying to find her way in a life that could swallow her whole.

Story from my perspective

My first thought when I started reading was, damn we gone come right out the gate with the goofy ish. But it was the appropriate set up for the title. Kahli had to grow up in a moment after watching his only support syatem draw his last breath. Not before giving him something that would undoubtedly change his life.

He was once a spectator but now he is the prime time special. He doesn't know what to do anymore. His Uncle was his everything and now that he is gone what will become of his broken heart? He feels a bit lost and he has his doubts but with a right hand man like J-Wild backing him no questions asked he feels ready to take on the world. In order to get things shaking he must head to New York to prepare for an epic takeover.

In New York Kallie is not here for anybody's BS. Overworked, underpaid and missing her Mema. Kallie has to make some real life decisions. When the opportunity arises for her take on the life that her parents once lived. She finds out her inner savage was just underneath the surface and she finds it an "honor" to be in this position.

What happens when two young savages meet one another and love comes into play? The better question is will they be able to navigate a world full of snakes, a past comeback to present and secrets, secrets and more secrets. Find out by clicking the link below and grabbing your copy.

Sidebar: I felt that this Author wrote from such a gutter standpoint. I can honestly tell you I got mad at points because I never knew what angle she was gonna come from. That is so not common now and days where most literature have the same scenarios. I can honestly say I was shocked and she should still #ReviveMyBae lol.

He has the weight of the world on his shoulders and he will need the strength of a good woman to be his "Queen".

Kira- Sister to King, she is young and a widow to early. She is having trouble with accepting her role as a "Forever Wife", she must be loyal to her husband even in death. Her loneliness is getting the best of her and forces her to make some decisions that "The Nation" would not approve of. Story from my perspective

When you first open the book you are immediately immersed in a life of a system that is ever moving. Decisions are being made, plans being executed and a family protected. All in the days work of one man, King. He runs many businessess both legal/illegal. He has to be the best type of gentleman for his consumers and the worst type of goon when he protects his empire.

He doesn't do it alone his adoptive brother Keao is his second mind. He makes sure all of his directives are met with excellence and he is on time for any and everything. Although her life is full with raising her nephew Micah he is still no substitute for the loneliness in her heart. She makes a decision that forces Kings hand. As a leader of a family whose "Traditions" are set in stone she has to fave punisment for her actions or be "prayed out". She accepts her punishment but will she be able to reconcile the life she dedicated herself too with the life she is building in exile.

Mija, once deprived of a family has gained one but at such a great cost and a little to late for it to matter to her heart. She was forced to rule beside a brother with a secret vendetta against "The Nation". That doesn't work for her because she would be the perfect "Reina"(Queen) to her "Rey" King. So she has to decide how far she will go for a family built on lies or will she risk it all for love.

So much happens in between the storylines and you find yourself understanding the principles "The Nation" has set forth. The empathy I felt for some characters was unmatched in any story I read prior. Will love prevail? Who will win the war? Does forgiveness ever truly matter? You will find yourself angry at times and happy just the same but its all between the words of this great book you can download below. Dont forget to grab your copy and comeback so we can discuss what you read.

Review of A Carter Family Saga: The Reign of Her Goon: Amayiah & Rashawn by Tamika "Meechie" Wilkins

This story is an urban fiction/street lit. You step into the arena with the Carter family. A group of siblings and cousins who have now taken over the reigns of a family empire that they are making their own. There is money, murder and mayhem oh my.
Character Breakdown

Amayiah- She is the babygirl of the family. Their most loved and prized possesion. She runs their legal businesses and has the role of mother and wife down to a science. She is non-confrontational and the one the famil tries to shield from all of the ugliness in the illegal things the family does although she is part of the business by birthright. She has secrets that only her and her husband share

Rashawn- He is not a carter by blood but by loyalty. He was adopted into the family in his youth and met the love of his life. He is the plug and is the brains and the means behind their succesful drug faction. He is a doting father as well as a well rounded husband. He is a fierce protector of his "My baby". He is a young savage whose heart beats for his family.

Goon- She is the problem solver. When shit gets hard you can call her the equalizer. She is the manifestation of a bad night that sets her on a warpath. She is also the Carters secret weapon although the family doesn't know her true identity

Story from my perspective

You meet Amayiah and Rashawn and you automatically think "Goals". She is the beauty to his beast. He is savage as fuck and all he wants is to keep his family safe and secure the bag. From the beginning you can tell that Rashawn is his wifes protector and he promised her years before that he would never leave her out in the world alone and he has kept that promise with a fierce determination.

Amayiah has been through some things not even her family knows but her husband is her best friend and they share no secrets. After experiencing a trajedy at a young age. It makes life seem just a little to hard to live. It makes her a shell of her former self and her dreams change with its harsh reality. She relives the night again and again and when it just wont stop. She collapses into herself whenever life gets to hard. Through her husband she remains grounded. He is her anchor. When it gets dark for her he is her light even though the darkness somethimes becomes all consuming.

When, the family is faced with a threat they enlist the help of Goon to start the process of eliminating their enemies. The family does not know who "Goon" is they are onlt connected through a third party. They impressed with Goons work and want to bring them on permanently to handle all their dirty work. This makes Rashawn nervous because he is the only one who knows Goons identity and knows that that type of revelation will break the family and cause chaos and expose the one person in the world to scrutiny and judgement and he promised to protect them. Even if it puts his loyalty in question with the Fam.

Goon is the sadistic thing nightmares are made of. She has no loyalty to anything but her cause and that is seeking revenge for a young girl whose innocence was taken. Each job she takes is like retribution. Her victims are all "Takers" and that just won't work for her. Her name rings bells in these streets because her torture methods are efficent and she gets sick satisfaction out watching her victims squirm. She also can find anybody the only thing is Rashawn won't let her be great. She tries make him understand that Amayiah is his only concern and no matter how much he tries to show her cares she needs him to understand she is loyal only to herself and her only goal in life is to make these men "Pay" so fuck love and feelings.

Rashawn finds himself caught between two worlds. He knows if the fam were to find out he would never be forgiven. But whats a man to do when he loves two women that are both the best parts of him?

This book has so many twists and turns and you are probably think this mam on some good bullshit. I can tell you honestly you will have to read it to  understand this triad. I enjoyed how this new author came out the gate swinging. The Carter Family is full of secrets and when revelations come to light will they be able to stand tall or will they falter. Book Review For: For Better or For Worse by D.T. Williams

This book was a contemporary romance that took you on a journey of Life, Love and Marriage. Even more than that the real life obstacles that such an institution faces. There is lies, deceit, infidelity as well as reconciliation.

Character Breakdown
Natalia "Lucy"- She was a character that I loved to hate. She was raised by a single elitist father. Which makes her self-centered, self-absorbed, selfish but she loves hard althouh her upbringing made her view life and others from a pedastal. She is married to Grant and has no bend and can only see life how she wants. But there is no doubt she loves her husband.

Grant- Raised to get it out the mud. All he had was a dollar and a dream and when he met Lucy he met the one that pushed him to want to do better. He knows from her upbringing that he has to rise to the occasion and he does. All he wants is a wife who loves and supports him and wants to raise a family. But once married he realizes that he may have bitten off more that he can chew.

Story from my perspective
I followed this couple on a journey that began innocent. Almost from the beginning I could tell that there would be some issues. They come from two different backgrounds and that usually doesn't work when your raised in separate social classes. I admired their love prevailing overall. I noticed how she acted like a pampered princess but he had enough swag to make her gather herself. Even with her sneak dissing him about not having much money he still remained patient with her and loved her through her flaws. They move to new york so she can finish college and he can take advantage of a job opportunity.

Fast forward to their marriage they are still young and in love. He found a great paying job as a welder and after climbing the ladder he gave her his last name. He purchased them their first home and all is right in the world. She is finished with college and has climbed the ladder to Assistant Editor at a prestigious magazine. She has hopes and dreams of a bright career and wants nothing to stand in her way. That is until he asks her to start a family of their own. This is the first major breakdown in their marriage. Lucy feels as though having a child will keep her from her dreams. This is a low blow for grant who does not have any family of his own. After discussing both of their fears in-depth she decides to have his child(but she does so begrudgingly)

Now, they have a family and all should be right in the world but when it rains it pours. Grant has decided to enter the corporate aspect of his profession as being a hands on welder kept him away from home for days and weeks at a time. To show his commitment to raising a family as well as his marriage he chooses an office position. Lucy on the other hand has not stopped climbing the ladder and nothing will stand in her way of success. She is forgetting her duties as a mother, a wife and helpmeet. Long nights and early days drive a wedge between her and Grant. He begs and pleads her to come home more, spend time with their son and just be his wife. She cannot be bothered only way to go is up. This leaves Grant with an empty bed and empty heart. What is a man to do when the woman he loves can't see that family is more important than any career goals? Whats a woman to do when she just wants to be free to live her life the way she sees fit?

Now Houston we have a problem!!! Grant has become tired of begging for the love and attention of his wife. He starts to feel as though she will never view life as he does. He is at his wits end and doesn't know how to change it around. Here enters Alexia, she is the bosses assistant that has been assigned to him to help with a project. They bond over work and similar interest. She becomes the breath of fresh air that he didn't know was missing. On a big night for him his wife cancels because of work and this becomes the proverbial straw. But Alexia showed up and at that moment he starts to see her through different eyes. This night changes things and he begins a passionate tryst that has him questioning himself but, at the same time coming back to indulge in something that feels to right to be wrong. To finally have someone to support him and give him the affection he deserves. But Lucy no matter how busy can see her husband slipping away because after neglecting him fo so long she decides that now she wants to finally be all that her husband desires. She notices the late nights and long days he spends away and decides to remind him why they fell in love.

False starts, is the best way I describe it. After confronting grant on his behavior and finally showing him she is willing to make it work. Grant who no matter what his extra curricular activities are at the bottom line he still loves his wife and he is commited to working on their marriage.  But what they didn't expect was for this new journey they are on to be ripped apart by the things that were done in the dark coming to the light.

This story was one that really struck home for me. There were a lot of ugly truths to be faced. Marriage is hard work and this Author will definitely touch many lives with this profound story.
