Character Breakdown
King- A gifted mind although he comes of a bit frigid. That is to be expected when you were left with some big shoes to fill. His Adoptive father Domo raised him to be his protegé. He runs a conglomerate that sells everything from women to drugs. None of that trumps his responsibilities as a father, big brother and protector. He has the weight of the world on his shoulders and he will need the strength of a good woman to be his "Queen".
Kira- Sister to King, she is young and a widow to early. She is having trouble with accepting her role as a "Forever Wife", she must be loyal to her husband even in death. Her loneliness is getting the best of her and forces her to make some decisions that "The Nation" would not approve of. How can she keep a promise to her late husband when her lower self just wants love and affection in this cold world
Keao- He is the adoptive brother of King and Kira as well as Second in command of "The Nation". He has had a hard life that has made him a humble man. He is affected by a love he thought long gone but may actually be his forever more.
Mija- She is the illegitimate child of "The Nation" once biggest Ally turned enemy. She meets King and can't help but bow to his royalty. She has had a life full of strife but she vows to make her enemies pay for all of the turmoil she suffered. Even if they are "Familia".
Luri- Rescued from the streets and adopted into a well to do family. She has had so many opportunities afforded her. Even with all of her accomplishments she could never forget her first protector. A lil boy who gave her love and loyalty befor she even knew what they meant. When the opportunity arises for her to met the man the boy has become, she is faced with some decisions.
Story from my perspective
When you first open the book you are immediately immersed in a life of a system that is ever moving. Decisions are being made, plans being executed and a family protected. All in the days work of one man, King. He runs many businessess both legal/illegal. He has to be the best type of gentleman for his consumers and the worst type of goon when he protects his empire.
He doesn't do it alone his adoptive brother Keao is his second mind. He makes sure all of his directives are met with excellence and he is on time for any and everything. They both strive to see "The Nation" grow and exceed its former glory that was lost in the last war. Together they begin promoting and recruiting to usher in a new era of "lines" to secure this great empire.
Kira the beloved sister to King and Keao is at her wits end. She tries to "Play the role" that "The Nation" has laid before her but it becomes a heavy burden to bare. Although her life is full with raising her nephew Micah he is still no substitute for the loneliness in her heart. She makes a decision that forces Kings hand. As a leader of a family whose "Traditions" are set in stone she has to fave punisment for her actions or be "prayed out". She accepts her punishment but will she be able to reconcile the life she dedicated herself too with the life she is building in exile.
Mija, once deprived of a family has gained one but at such a great cost and a little to late for it to matter to her heart. She was forced to rule beside a brother with a secret vendetta against "The Nation". That doesn't work for her because she would be the perfect "Reina"(Queen) to her "Rey" King. So she has to decide how far she will go for a family built on lies or will she risk it all for love.
So much happens in between the storylines and you find yourself understanding the principles "The Nation" has set forth. The empathy I felt for some characters was unmatched in any story I read prior. Will love prevail? Who will win the war? Does forgiveness ever truly matter? You will find yourself angry at times and happy just the same but its all between the words of this great book you can download below. Dont forget to grab your copy and comeback so we can discuss what you read.
